What is a Department?
A department is a category under which articles may be filed. Creating a department allows you to select that department as a category when you create a new article. Articles categorized under a certain department appear in the “Departments” section of that issue.
Creating a Department
Begin on the administrative home page, and select “Departments” in the side bar. This will take you to the Departments page, where all previously-entered departments appear in a list in the order they were assigned. Unlike Issues, you select the order that departments are listed. If no departments have been entered, this list will be empty. To create a new department, select the “Create a New Department” link at the top of this page next to a green plus sign icon. Enter in a Title and a Name (these are usually the same) for the department.
Ordering Departments
Enter a number in the “Order” field to determine what place that department will occupy in your list on the Departments page. For the first Department you enter, select “1” for its order, and if, at a later date, you wish to change its position in your list of departments, simply click on that department, edit its “Order” field, and save changes. If you enter the same “Order” for two departments, the department that comes first alphabetically will come first.
Content
In the “Content” field you may choose to include a brief intro or summary of the department you are creating or you may wish to leave it blank. Once you have made all the necessary changes to this page, click “Save.” The department will then be available to categorize articles under. To make any modifications to any of your departments at any time, go to the Departments page, find the appropriate department in the list, click on it, make the necessary changes, and then click “Save” to save your changes or click on “Delete” if you wish to delete a department.
