What is an Issue?
An issue is the basic unit of your publication. An issue is comprised of articles, including columns, department, feature, and cover stories. The first step in creating an online publication is creating an issue. Once an issue is created, all the articles can be categorized under that issue. Each new issue is stored in the system as the most recent issue. It appears at the top of the list of issues. Issues remain drafts until you select the “Live” option. When you select the Live option for an issue, that issue and all the articles therein are posted on your website.
What information is on the Issues page?
All the previously-entered issues appear in a list in the order that they were created, with the most recent issue at the top. If you have not entered any issues yet, this list will be empty. The system will include in this list each issue’s title (ex. Vol. 1, No. 1, Jan. 2005), the number in which it was created in the system and its URL. It will also list whether the Issue has been saved as Live (already posted and available on your website) or Draft (saved but unavailable for viewing by the public).
Creating an Issue
Begin on your administrative homepage, and click the “Issues” icon in the side bar. This is a link to the Issues page. Select the “Create a New Issue” link at the top of this page next to a green plus sign icon. Enter in a Title and a Name (these are usually the same) for the issue you are creating, and a number will automatically be selected for you by the system. The first issue will be numbered “1” and each subsequent issue will be numbered chronologically.
Making an Issue Live
Press Publisher gives you the option to save an issue as a draft or to publish it in your online publication. Selecting the “Live” option will make the entire issue available on your website. Do not select the live option until you are ready to post the entire issue.
Including an Image
Select “Browse” next to the “Image” field. Select a saved image from a disk or your hard drive and select “Open” in the same way that your would attach a file in an email.
Including an Intro
In the “Intro” field include a brief intro or summary of the issue or leave it blank. Once all the necessary changes have been made to this page, click “Save.” The Issue will then be available to fill with articles. When the issue is ready to go Live, or to make any modifications to any of your issues at any time, go to the Issues page, find the appropriate issue in the list of issues, select it, make the necessary changes, and then “Save.” To delete a whole issue, select “Delete.”
